How to get from the La Hospedería de Ana to the Malmuerta Tower.

The Malmuerta Tower (Torre de la Malmuerta) is an albarran tower of the city of Córdoba. Located in the neighborhood of Santa Marina, construction began in 1404, ending in 1408, and was built on the remains of a Muslim tower. Its mission was to defend the doors of the Corner and the Colodro. Its construction was commissioned by King Enrique III of Castile to the first corregidor of the city of Córdoba, Penedro Sánchez.

The legend of the Malmuerta tower, also known as the legend of the commanders of Cordoba, is based on a historical event that took place in 1448 in the city of Córdoba. The protagonist was Fernando Alfonso de Córdoba, knight Twenty-four of the city, who murdered his wife, Beatriz de Hinestrosa, and Jorge de Córdoba and Solier, commander of Cabeza del Buey, who had seduced her. In addition he assassinated to Fernando Alfonso de Córdoba and Solier, brother of the previous one and commander of Moral, being both brothers gentlemen of the Order of Calatrava and cousins of the assassin. The revenge of Fernando Alfonso also reached other individuals, among others to several servants and their relatives.

Notwithstanding the foregoing, the legend of the Tower of the Malmuerta indicates, without any basis, that Fernando Alfonso de Córdoba killed his wife, believing her an adulteress without any foundation, for which, repentant, he asked for forgiveness to King Juan II of Castile, who, according to the legend, ordered him to build a tower in Cordoba as an expiation for his crime, since that tower was called the Mal-dead. However, the Malmuerta tower was actually built between 1404 and 1408, during the reign of Henry III of Castile. The protagonist of the legend, Fernando Alfonso de Córdoba, died in the city of Córdoba in 1478 and was buried in the chapel of San Antonio Abad of the Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba. In her they also rest the mortal rest of his second wife, Constanza de Baeza and Haro.(1)
